About Vista

Vista is a city in San Diego County, in the San Diego-Carlsbad metro area. The community is in the Pacific Standard time zone. The latitude of Vista is 33.2N. The longitude is -117.241W. The estimated population, in 2003, was 91,813. Vista is on Buena Creek. The community name derives from Spanish for "view". . Vista was originally agricultural land, growing flowers, nuts and fruit and was incorporated into San Diego County in 1963. With a population approaching 100,000, this city is growing fast. It's also one of the 50 best cities for families according to a 1992 national rating. The Rancho Vista Adobe, La Casa De Rancho Guajome, and the Vista Historical Museum are fabulous educational opportunities; the Moonlight Amphitheater and The Wave Water Park are favorites of residents as well.

Area Schools

San Diego City Schools (SDCS) serves nearly 133,000 students, and has marked more than 150 years of service to San Diego's children. It is the second largest district in California, and eighth largest urban district in the United States. The student population is extremely diverse, representing more than 15 ethnic groups and over 60 languages and dialects.The district’s focus on providing educational excellence and equity to all students has resulted in significant grant funding from private and public agencies, and other organizations supporting education. This includes a $17.5 million grant from the US Department of Education under its Striving Readers program – one of only eight grants given nationwide this year – and a $2.24 million grant from the California Department of Education to provide technology for science education at 12 district middle schools
