About Solana Beach

Solana Beach is a city in San Diego County, in the San Diego metro area. The community is in the Pacific Standard time zone. The latitude of Solana Beach is 32.991N. The longitude is -117.27W. The estimated population, in 2003, was 12,993. The community name derives from Spanish for "sunny". The charming, seaside community of Solana Beach is nestled along the northern coast of San Diego County, and is approximately a 30 minute drive from downtown San Diego. Its main access routes include Interstate 5, Highway 101, Lomas Santa Fe Drive, and Via de la Valle. Amtrak and Coaster trains stop at the station located at 105 N. Cedros Ave.The City lives up to its name with temperatures that average 62 degrees in the wintertime and 77 degrees in the summertime. It offers 1.7 miles of coastline for swimming and surfing. Solana Beach is located along San Diego's northern coast, between Encinitas and Del Mar. The legendary El Camino Real goes through the eastern part of the area and dates back to the 1700's. One of the early land owners, Ed Fletcher, advertised Solana Beach as a great place for avocado trees and Fletcher Cove was actually manmade with the help of hydraulic water pressure in the early 1900's. By the 1950's, the population was booming and in the 80's, Solana Beach became an official city of San Diego . . Residents and visitors enjoy shopping at the Cedros Design District.Most days you will see locals drop by to watch the sun set at Fletcher Cove.The City is a favorite destination for those looking for eclectic shops, great dining, golfing, nightlife, and nearby hiking.

San Diego City Schools (SDCS) serves nearly 133,000 students, and has marked more than 150 years of service to San Diego's children. It is the second largest district in California, and eighth largest urban district in the United States. The student population is extremely diverse, representing more than 15 ethnic groups and over 60 languages and dialects.The district’s focus on providing educational excellence and equity to all students has resulted in significant grant funding from private and public agencies, and other organizations supporting education. This includes a $17.5 million grant from the US Department of Education under its Striving Readers program – one of only eight grants given nationwide this year – and a $2.24 million grant from the California Department of Education to provide technology for science education at 12 district middle schools
