Samsung Gear S2 is the successor to Gear S, which was Samsung’s first take on building one of the best smart watches in the world. Even through Samsung has used Android in its smart phones, this time it has ditched the Google powered monster for its own called Tizen OS. The Gear S2 along with doing all the basic functions that a smart watch should also carries a stack of fitness functions that makes it a watch come fitness band.
Starting out with the specs, the Gear S2 packs:
- 1.2 inch sAMOLED
- 302 ppi display
- 512 MB RAM
- 4 GB onboard storage
- 250 mAh battery
- Gyro, Acc, Barometer, Light and HRM sensor
The first thing about Gear S2 that makes it one of the best smart watches to buy is its simplicity. The smart watch has a normal feel to it and doesn’t feel too heavy. The 42mm dial fits perfectly on all wrists and as you go through the day you won’t feel as if you’re carry something superficial. Soon, the smart watch will become an integral part of you.
The smart watch has home and back buttons that do exactly what the name says. There’s a rotating bezel on top of the watch that can help you make your way through various apps and services. The way to interact with various apps is easy and you won’t have to go through too much trouble to get your way.
Samsung has put enough though in both the interior as well as the exterior of the smart watch. The watchfaces aka themes are really beautiful and can give your watch a whole new look. There are a number of watchfaces you can choose from, available in Samsung’s store.
The OS works great and there aren’t any noticeable jitters in its performance. Samsung has worked in partnerships with a couple more companies to bring this to life. Even the app store is growing with every passing day. Speaking of app store, there are a multitude of apps that you can install on this bad boy ranging from gmail to whatsapp to the dozens of fitness ones.
The health feature is one of the main selling points of this smart watch so its a well-built one. There are apps that work hand in hand with the sensors like activity tracking, heart beat sensor, step count and so on. The biggest thing about these apps is their accuracy. Unlike many other smart watches and fitness trackers, the Gear S2 gives very precise readings and therefore paints a very real fitness picture. There is one drawback though; if you have bony wrists then the Heart Beat Sensor won’t be able to work on its best. In addition, there are special exercise modes as well like exercise bike, run, treadmill, cycling, etc. for specialized help for these activities.
When it comes to performance, the Gear S2 is worth the money and will give you a much needed exposure to wearable tech.
