About Santa Ana

Over a century ago, Santa Ana was no more than a mustard field. Founder William H. Spurgeon bought the land and started to build a community, complete with a courthouse that can still be visited today. In the city's infancy, it was the political center of the county. Although it experienced some economic and social problems in the 1960's, Santa Ana is making a comeback. The Main Place shopping center is a popular stop, as is the Santa Ana Zoo, the Discovery Science Center, and the Bowers Museums. The population has far surpassed the 300,000 mark, and the city's diversity is well known and celebrated.

Tustin Unified School District
The mission of the Tustin Unified School District, a learning community rich in heritage and committed to a tradition of excellence, is to ensure that each student optimizes individual achievement through an educational system characterized by challenging and exciting curricula and inspiring personalized instruction, in partnership with our dynamic and involved communities. The district was established in 1972 and has 18 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 4 high schools (including alternative and adult education programs). TUSD serves the communities of Tustin, Santa Ana, and portions of Irvine and has over 20 thousand students. In the past decade, 14 schools in the District have been recognized as either state or nationally distinguished schools. Three elementary schools, a middle school and high school are National Blue Ribbon Schools. Nine other schools--three elementary, four middle and two high schools--are California Distinguished Schools.

Garden Grove Unified District
The Garden Grove Unified School District spans the cities of Garden Grove, Westminster, Fountain Valley, and Santa Ana. The Board of Education is committed to providing an educational program focusing on student achievement, high standards, and opportunities for all students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to live a productive life. The district strives to ensure that all students have the opportunity upon leaving high school to choose from a wide variety of options including four-year colleges and universities, technical education, or a skilled career. The opportunity to choose among these paths requires that students achieve proficiency as defined by state standards in core academic subjects and achieve proficiency in the use of the English language. These proficiencies will make it possible for students to access rigorous high school courses and enable them to graduate ready for college and skilled careers.
