About Irvine
Irvine was originally a home to livestock and
later crops of barley, lima beans, asparagus, avocado, oranges,
and strawberries. The huge planned community that remains today
was originally from James Irvine's plot of land in the mid 1800's:
the Irvine Ranch. After The University of California Irvine (UCI)
was established in the 1960's, the development of Irvine's characteristic
housing plots was underway. Today, nearly 200,000 people call
Irvine home, in the largest planned community in the nation. Irvine
is the 6th safest city in the US for serious crimes, and it is
number one in safety for "part 1" violent crimes. While
UCI is the only four year university in the city, Irvine is also
home to three excellent community colleges: Irvine Valley, Santiago
Canyon and Orange Coast. These colleges provide a variety of classes
for part-time and full-time students, on day and night schedules,
for both young and old. Irvine is known for its clean and regulated
suburban neighborhoods, as well as the Irvine Spectrum shopping
and entertainment center, Wild Rivers Water Park, and an outdoor
concert arena - the Verizon Amphitheater. Irvine is a terrific
place to raise a family.

Irvine Unified School District
The Irvine Unified School District has a reputation for excellence
and success. Employees in the district are among the best in the
business, and have created programs aimed at addressing the unique
needs of individual students. Students have hands-on access to
current technology, athletic programs provide important opportunities
to learn valuable life lessons, and the district provides education
in the arts and sciences at all levels. Students enjoy a wide
range of learning experiences that will amply prepare them for
what happens beyond doors of the classroom.
Tustin Unified School District
The mission of the Tustin Unified School District, a learning
community rich in heritage and committed to a tradition of excellence,
is to ensure that each student optimizes individual achievement
through an educational system characterized by challenging and
exciting curricula and inspiring personalized instruction, in
partnership with our dynamic and involved communities. The district
was established in 1972 and has 18 elementary schools, 5 middle
schools, and 4 high schools (including alternative and adult education
programs). TUSD serves the communities of Tustin, Santa Ana, and
portions of Irvine and has over 20 thousand students. In the past
decade, 14 schools in the District have been recognized as either
state or nationally distinguished schools. Three elementary schools,
a middle school and high school are National Blue Ribbon Schools.
Nine other schools--three elementary, four middle and two high
schools--are California Distinguished Schools.
