About Garden Grove
Rich in history and culture, Garden Grove offers
attractions such as the Crystal Cathedral, The Orange County Symphony,
The Stanley Ranch Museum, and The Garden Grove Center Theater.
Garden Grove, like much of Orange County, used to be a farming
town, growing grapes, peaches and strawberries. Although the farm
land is gone, the history remains in such events as the Strawberry
Festival that happens annually on Memorial Day. Garden Grove is
a diverse city, with large Korean and Hispanic communities, as
well as numerous annual multicultural festivals celebrating such
diversity.
Area Schools
K-6th Grade: Anaheim City
School District
Anaheim City's 23 schools serve a population of about 23,000 students
from kindergarten through sixth grade, making ACSD one of the
largest elementary districts in California. All schools in the
district are on four-track, year-round schedules. The area is
known for its diversity, with approximately 63% English learners
in the district. ACSD has more than 2,000 employees, with teachers
practicing standards-based instruction, utilizing student support
programs, and using a coordinated curriculum. The district is
making strides to improve their academic performance; In the 2002
/ 2003 school year, 22 schools met their school wide and subject
targets.
Westminster School District
The Westminster School district provides 12 elementary and 2 middle
schools to the cities of Garden Grove, Midway City, Huntington
Beach, and Westminster. The district has 10,000 students and about
1,300 employees. The schools in WSD have been named National Blue
Ribbon Schools, as well as receiving various awards for academic
and educational excellence.
7th-12th Grade: Garden Grove Unified School District
The Garden Grove Unified School District spans the cities of Garden
Grove, Westminster, Fountain Valley, and Santa Ana. The Board
of Education is committed to providing an educational program
focusing on student achievement, high standards, and opportunities
for all students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary
to live a productive life. The district strives to ensure that
all students have the opportunity upon leaving high school to
choose from a wide variety of options including four-year colleges
and universities, technical education, or a skilled career. The
opportunity to choose among these paths requires that students
achieve proficiency as defined by state standards in core academic
subjects and achieve proficiency in the use of the English language.
These proficiencies will make it possible for students to access
rigorous high school courses and enable them to graduate ready
for college and skilled careers.
Anaheim
Union High School District
The Anaheim Union High School District has an impressive 95% graduation
rate and a population of almost 37,000. The district was founded
over a century ago in 1898, and includes the cities of Anaheim,
Buena Park, Cypress, Garden Grove, La Palma, Orange and Stanton.
This area is known for its diversity as its population speaks
over fifty different languages. AUHSD has another reason to be
proud; the district is home to the second highest API scoring
school in the state. Many of these schools are California Distinguished
Schools and have received Golden Bell Awards and Golden State
Exam awards.
