About Fullerton
Fullerton was named after George H. Fullerton
who brought the railroad to that area. Orange and avocado orchards
would flourish soon after. In the early 1900's Fullerton was a
bona fide western town, complete with saloons and brawls. Today,
Fullerton is home to the Titans at Cal State Fullerton, the 1995
National Champions in baseball. This city also has an international
airport, museums, an arboretum, Downtown shopping, as well as
numerous annual community events.
Area Schools
Grades K-8: Fullerton School
District
The Fullerton School District serves students in grades K-8, and
also provides Preschool and Special Education classes for children
younger than kindergarten. Teachers provide a comprehensive program
aligned with State guidelines and standards in which basic skills
and critical thinking skills are an integral part of all subjects:
English/Language Arts, Math, Science, History/Social Science,
Visual and Performing Arts, Computer Skills, and Physical Education.
Many of the schools in the district have been named National Blue
Ribbon Schools and California Distinguished Schools and have received
the Golden Bell Award.
La Habra City School District
The La Habra City School District believes in a child-centered
program that recognizes the individual abilities, needs and interests
of each student. Teaching methods emphasize the mastering of basic
skills including reading, language and mathematics. The district
is located in the Northwestern part of Orange County and covers
a five (5) mile area that includes the city of La Habra and parts
of Brea and Fullerton. The 9 schools in LHCSD serve approximately
6400 students. During the summer, the district offers a comprehensive
summer school program.
Placentia-Yorba Linda School District
The Placentia-Yorba Linda School District is home to 27,000 students
from Kindergarten through High School. The district serves the
communities of Placenita and Yorba Linda, as well as parts of
Anaheim, Brea, and Fullerton. There are about 2,500 employees
and a great diversity in student heritage. In addition, several
schools are pursuing honors in school excellence. The California
Distinguished School and National Blue Ribbon School honors are
perhaps the most coveted titles that schools can receive. In this
district, 19 schools have already received such honors.
Grades 9-12: Fullerton
Joint High School District
The Fullerton Joint Union High School District was founded in
1893 and serves grades 9-12. It serves a fifty-square-mile area
that includes the elementary districts of Buena Park, Fullerton,
La Habra and Lowell Joint. A comprehensive summer school program
is offered each year. The District's school year consists of 180
instructional days of 372 minutes each. The District serves a
varied socioeconomic population of families. Active parent organizations,
an involved business community and supportive higher education
institutions are enjoyed by the District.
