About Fountain Valley
Once a home to wheat and lima bean farmers, Fountain
Valley is today home to almost 60,000 residents. Although the
area has been a community since the late 1800's, Fountain Valley
was not officially a city until the 1950's. Soon after, the city
changed from farming to housing, and thousands of residents settled
there. Visitors can learn more about Fountain Valley's rich history
at Heritage Park, or enjoy sports and events at the Mile Square
Regional Park.
Area Schools
Grades K-Middle School: Fountain
Valley School District
The Fountain Valley School District consists of eleven elementary
and middle schools in the cities of Huntington Beach and Fountain
Valley in Orange County. The district provides an environment
that promotes academic excellence through the mastery of basic
skills while challenging students to become life-long learners
and to reach their highest potential. They stand by their mission:
Guided by knowledgeable, highly-trained teachers, administrators,
and involved parents, students will become effective communicators
and creative thinkers who will be successful and responsible citizens.
Ocean View School District
Ocean View School District currently has eleven elementary schools
for students in grades K - 5 and four middle schools to serve
the needs of our 6 - 8 students. The District encompasses 15 square
miles in the northern half of Huntington Beach, and also serves
a small number of students in Westminster, Fountain Valley and
Midway City. The past few years have seen outstanding academic
growth in student achievement. High school students are served
by Huntington Beach Union High School District.
Huntington Beach Unified High School District
The HBUHSD serves the communities of Huntington Beach, Westminster,
Fountain Valley, and Ocean View. The first high school in the
area was founded in 1903 and during the past 90 years the district
maintained a strong commitment to education which has provided
a rich tradition of athletic and educational success for students.
In recent years, the district has been praised by Newsweek Magazine
and the Los Angeles Times for its commitment to academic excellence.
The most recent SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) scores for district
students reflect a ten-year growth pattern with the average score
for the Class of 1993 being 81 points above the national average
and 84 points above the state average. Scores on the ACT (American
College Test) are 15 percent above the national average. Highly
successful advanced placement courses exist at each school; alternative
programs provide rich opportunities for other students, and the
Special Abilities Cluster and Special Day Classes have been acknowledged
as exemplary in meeting the needs of special education students.
Garden Grove Unified School District
The Garden Grove Unified School District spans the cities of Garden
Grove, Westminster, Fountain Valley, and Santa Ana. The Board
of Education is committed to providing an educational program
focusing on student achievement, high standards, and opportunities
for all students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary
to live a productive life. The district strives to ensure that
all students have the opportunity upon leaving high school to
choose from a wide variety of options including four-year colleges
and universities, technical education, or a skilled career. The
opportunity to choose among these paths requires that students
achieve proficiency as defined by state standards in core academic
subjects and achieve proficiency in the use of the English language.
These proficiencies will make it possible for students to access
rigorous high school courses and enable them to graduate ready
for college and skilled careers.
