About Cypress
Originally an agricultural and dairy community,
Cypress was once grasslands sprinkled with artesian wells. In
the 1940's and 50's, Cypress's cow population outnumbered its
human population nearly 100 fold. Today, Cypress is home to nearly
50,000 people. This city hosts large businesses and the Los Alamitos
Race Track, which attracts visitors from all over Orange County.
Area Schools
K-6th Grade: Cypress School
District
The Cypress School District is in an area of approximately six
square miles in northwestern Orange County, California, providing
quality educational experiences for children in grades kindergarten
through grade six. The District incorporates small portions of
both La Palma and Buena Park, as well as Cypress. Students in
the ten elementary schools in the district consistently score
at least two years above grade level and exceed national and state
averages on standardized tests in basic skill areas. Cypress maintains
small class and school sizes and the teachers average 15 years
experience in the district.
Grades K-6: Savanna School
District
Savanna School District, encompassing parts of the cities of Anaheim,
Buena Park, Cypress and Stanton, is an elementary school district
with approximately 2400 students. These students are housed in
four locations: Cerritos School, Hansen School, Holder School
and Twila Reid School. The district size is about four square
miles with each elementary school located within one mile of another.
The small district size means that Savanna has a family-like atmosphere
among the faculty, support staff, students, parents and the community.
Providing a learning environment and a strong academic program
that focuses on reading, writing, and mathematics is the primary
goal of the Savanna School District.
Anaheim City School District
Anaheim City's 23 schools serve a population of about 23,000 students
from kindergarten through sixth grade, making ACSD one of the
largest elementary districts in California. All schools in the
district are on four-track, year-round schedules. The area is
known for its diversity, with approximately 63% English learners
in the district. ACSD has more than 2,000 employees, with teachers
practicing standards-based instruction, utilizing student support
programs, and using a coordinated curriculum. The district is
making strides to improve their academic performance; In the 2002
/ 2003 school year, 22 schools met their school wide and subject
targets.
Los Alamitos Unified School District
The schools of the Los Alamitos Unified School District are National
Blue Ribbon Schools, California Distinguished Schools, and have
received Golden Bell Awards. A culture of high student achievement
and integrity will be the hallmark of the district. Students thrive
in a caring, respectful, and encouraging environment where they
are physically and emotionally safe to focus on learning. The
Board, all staff, students, parents, and community will work together
to improve the academic performance of all students by responding
to their individual learning needs. Teachers utilize a challenging,
relevant, and balanced curriculum, so that students will acquire
the skills, knowledge, values, and experiences to succeed in their
personal and professional lives, to continue their learning for
a lifetime, and to contribute as citizens in a democratic society.
7th-12th Grade: Anaheim
Union High School District
The Anaheim Union High School District has an impressive 95% graduation
rate and a population of almost 37,000. The district was founded
over a century ago in 1898, and includes the cities of Anaheim,
Buena Park, Cypress, Garden Grove, La Palma, Orange and Stanton.
This area is known for its diversity as its population speaks
over fifty different languages. AUHSD has another reason to be
proud; the district is home to the second highest API scoring
school in the state. Many of these schools are California Distinguished
Schools and have received Golden Bell Awards and Golden State
Exam awards.
