Imperial Beach is a city in San Diego County, in the San Diego-Carlsbad
metro area. The community is in the Pacific Standard time zone.
The latitude of Imperial Beach is 32.583N. The longitude is -117.112W.
The estimated population, in 2003, was 27,151. Imperial Beach
is on the Pacific Ocean, near the Mexico border. In the early
1950s, Imperial Beach was becoming a vibrant place where people
liked to live, work and play near the beach. Located at the coastal
tip of San Diego, Imperial Beach is famous for its sand; the city
holds their annual US Open Sandcastle Competition in the summer.
Imperial Beach was once a vacation spot for inlanders in Imperial
Valley Fifty years later, we still have the same hometown feeling
and we still want to live, work and play near the beach. Imperial
Beach has grown into a major influence in the South County with
rising property values and an unprecedented growth in tourism
and ecotourism, but we still remain. Many of the shops in the
area a privately owned, giving it a small town feel. In addition,
public transportation is tops in Imperial Beach; their bus system
is the busiest in the county. The Tijuana Slough National Wildlife
Refuge and the Tijuana River National Estuarine Sanctuary and
Border Field State Park are great places for families to visit.
