Encinitas is a city in San Diego County, in the San Diego-Carlsbad metro area. The community is in the Pacific Standard time zone. The latitude of Encinitas is 33.036N. The longitude is -117.291W. The estimated population, in 2003, was 60,340. "Flower Capital and Surf Capital of the World". Encinitas is on the Pacific Ocean. The community name derives from Spanish for "hills of live oaks". The city was incorporated in 1986 from the communities of Encinitas, Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea and Olivenhain. These communities retain their identities, and their distinctive flavors. The largest single industry is the growing of ornamental flowers, particularly poinsettias. The City is governed by a five-member City Council, elected at-large to staggered four-year terms at two-year intervals. Located along six miles of Pacific coastline in northern San Diego County, Encinitas is characterized by coastal beaches, cliffs, flat-topped coastal areas, steep mesa bluffs and rolling hills. This is a charming town it's a great place to live work and raise a family.
