El Cajon is a city in San Diego County, in the San Diego-Carlsbad
metro area. The community is in the Pacific Standard time zone.

The estimated population, in 2003, was 95,159. The area where
El Cajon now lies was once covered with roaming cattle and, later,
wheat, avocados and grapes. The city seen today was actually a
campsite for Julian gold miners. This city has a nationally recognized
Main Street, as well as a downtown with about 200 shops. Residents
and visitors enjoy the El Cajon Classic Cruise (the largest weekly
car show in the area) and the East County Performing Arts Center.
All of the land in El Cajon is developed, and big business manufacturing
is commonplace. El Cajon is in San Diego County. The community
name means "the box" in Spanish, because the city is
