About Chula Vista

Chula Vista is a city in San Diego County, in the San Diego- metro area. The community is in the Pacific Standard time zone. The latitude of Chula Vista is 32.64N. The longitude is -117.083W.The estimated population, in 2003, was 199,060.. Chula Vista is located just north of the Mexican border, and used to be the site of citrus groves. The once "Lemon Capital of the Nation" is now the 2nd largest city in San Diego. Chula Vista offers many entertainment opportunities including a nature center, Knott's Soak City USA water park, and the Coors Amphitheater. Athletes train at the Olympic Training Center and big-name businesses are commonplace in the Eastlake business center. The history of the area known as Chula Vista, can be traced back millions of years through prehistoric fossils of both land and sea types. Around 3000 B.C., Yuman-speaking people began moving into the area. Many of the Native American Indians in San Diego today are descendants of the Kumeyaay tribe who roamed here for hundreds of years. During the next decades, Chula Vista continued to expand eastward. Plans called for a variety of housing developments such as EastLake, Rancho del Rey and Otay Ranch neighborhoods. In 2003, Chula Vista had 200,000 residents and was the second largest city in San Diego County. As the city continues to grow, it strives for a balance of attractive neighborhoods and strong business base but holds fast to maintaining a sense of community and small town values upon which it was founded.
