About Santa Catalina Island
Santa Catalina Island is in Los Angeles County, in the Los Angeles-Long
Beach metro area. The community is in the Pacific Standard time
zone. The latitude of Santa Catalina Island is 33.383N. The longitude
is -118.416W. Santa Catalina Island is off the Los Angeles coast.
Once a base for otter hunters. Chewing gum king William Wrigley
bought the island in 1919. Because so much of the island is protected
from development, little has changed here in recent decades. Buffalo
were brought to the island for a 1924 movie shoot; a herd of about
200 still roams the island interior. http://www.catalina.com/main.html
